There are no little rescues

by Linda King

[ poetry - september 07 ]

it's an ungraspable memory that lives in the sea
one that erases itself in the sand

at the furthest edge
storm and calm together

there are no little rescues
everything disappears when it's underneath

like a lover waving from a train
like the unseen child that sings behind the wall

like all small catastrophes
your hand will be last to slip under
